Before you begin to look for an Artisan or Tradesman 

we thought it a good idea to give you some pointers

to help you on you way.

Try to pick a business close to your home as some businesses can charge from when they leave the depot (time out) and if the job is going to be a long one this can work out expensive.

Always pick an Artisan or Tradesman who specialize in the field you need as they

are more likely to have the right equipment for the job.

Always ask about the insurance that is provided for the work being carried out.

If you need more then one Artisan or Tradesman appoint a manager or architect, or  alternatively talk to the main Tradesman about overseeing all the other trades. This can save you time, money and problems later on.

For larger projects MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A START DATE AND A FINISHING DATE signed and agreed before parting with any money.

Lots of Artisans and Tradesman ask you to pay for materials up front before they start.  This is quite normal for smaller works but make sure you are paying trade prices for the materials.  If not then open accounts with the suppliers before ordering.   Larger contacts are normally done on interim payments.

Make sure you keep all invoices.  If and when you come to sell your home certain works and costs can be written off against the profit by the notaire.
